Matthew Buechner was destined to be an artist. Buechner's father was Director of the Corning Museum of Glass and later the President of Steuben while his mother was also an artist.
Buechner's goal for Thames Glass is to produce the highest quality of glass. He enjoys the physical aspect of glassblowing and in one sense compares it to a sport. Buechner began blowing glass at age 18 and went on to study the art form at Hartwick College. He also spent several years in working at Glasshutte Eisch in Fraunau, Germany making stemware.
Eventually, Buechner moved back to the States and established Thames Art Glass. Thames Art Glass creates a variety of blown glass pieces, including bowls, vases, snowmen and fish that are meant to bring pleasure and satisfaction to all.
